Guidance Department

The goal of the Streetsboro Guidance Department is to help each student develop an awareness of his/her strengths and interests, which aids the student in finding a career/profession that matches his/her personal profile.  In conjunction with the classroom teachers and staff, the guidance counselors help students develop Individual Career Plan and Career Passport.

Whether the student goes directly into the workforce or on to higher education, it is the School District's desire that he/she have consciously chosen that career path.  Preparation for students' post secondary activities will be fostered by the high school counselors through large group, classroom and individual meetings with students and their parents.

The Maplewood Career Center is an invaluable resource available to Streetsboro students who want to pursue careers in the technical trades or the college preparatory technical preparation programs.  Starting with their junior year, students are able to enroll at Maplewood and participate in these hands-on career choice programs.  The skills that they obtain there will enable them to enter the workforce and/or have the background to continue their education.

Students who choose to complete their high school education at Streetsboro, in order to prepare for college, will be counseled by the guidance counselors regarding the appropriate college preparatory courses necessary to attain their career/professional goals.  Information regarding scholarships, resume writing, ACT/SAT test dates and practice  activities, as well as general information can be obtained in either the High School library or the guidance department.

The Ohio Career Information System is a career interest and college survey tool that Streetsboro students will be introduced to during their high school years.  This instrument helps the student identify his/her interests and then matches them with careers/professions that utilize those interests.  The OCIS program also helps students find information about universities with programs that offer training in their field of interest.

No matter what the student's goals are in life, it is the Streetsboro Guidance Department's desire to aid them in their pursuit.
